What Focus Study keeps about you, where it's kept, and how to take it with you or delete it.

Focus Study is made by Jotwise Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16287852), registered office 4 Hednesford Street, Cannock, England, WS11 1DJ. We're the "data controller" for the personal data described here, which means we decide how it's used and we're responsible for looking after it.
Questions or requests about your data: info@jotwise.co.uk.
This policy covers the Focus Study desktop app (Windows) and the Focus Study phone app. Your use of Focus Study is also covered by our Terms of Use. Our website and our other apps (Jotwise Focus and Jotwise Notes) have their own policies.
Your email address and password, so you can sign in and use Focus Study on your phone and computer. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody, including us, can read it. We use your email to send you a one-time code to confirm it when you sign up, and codes to reset your password. We don't send marketing emails from the app.
The name you'd like to be called and your energy rhythm (when in the day you tend to have the most energy), so the app can greet you and suggest when to tackle harder tasks.
Your tasks (title, energy level, section, due date and time, repeat setting, reminder choices, and when you ticked them off), the steps you break them into, and your parked thoughts. These are kept so they're the same on every device you sign in on. Completed tasks are cleared from History after 7 days.
You decide what you write. Focus Study never asks about your health, disability or studies, but anything you type into a task or parked thought is stored as you wrote it.
Your free trial dates, your licence key and whether your licence is active are stored with your account, so your licence works on every phone and computer you sign in on.
Focus Study can be used on up to 3 devices at once. To count them, the app makes up a random ID each time you sign in on a device (it isn't your device's own serial number or advertising ID), and keeps it with the type of device (for example "Windows computer" or "Android phone" and its model) and when it was last used. This is so you can see your devices and sign one out to make room for a new one. Signing out of a device removes it from the count.
No analytics, no advertising identifiers, no location, no contacts, no photos, and no tracking of how you use the app. There are no cookies in the apps.
Showing your calendar is optional. However you connect it, Focus Study can only read your appointments. It can't add, change or delete anything. Your appointments are fetched straight to your device each time you open the Calendar and are never stored on or sent to our servers. They're used only to show you your agenda, and to warn you before a focus session if an appointment is about to start.
Focus Study's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use calendar data for advertising, we don't sell it, we don't let people read it, and we don't use it to train AI models.
Due-date reminders and the focus timer on your phone are set up on the phone itself. No reminder or notification is sent through our servers.
We use three service providers. Each works only on our instructions, under data processing agreements:
A copy of your tasks is also kept on each device you sign in on, so the app works offline. Signing out or deleting your account removes that copy.
UK data protection law recognises the EU as giving an adequate level of protection. If either provider ever needs to access data from outside the UK or EU (for example, for technical support), they're bound by the safeguards UK law requires.
Everything is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Each account can only ever see its own data. This is enforced by the database itself, not just by the app.
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, your account, profile, tasks, steps and parked thoughts are deleted from our database straight away and removed from our sync service shortly after.
The one thing we keep is a scrambled, one-way version of your email address. It can't be turned back into your email and contains nothing else. We keep it only so that a free trial can't be started again with the same email address.
You have the right to:
For anything else, email info@jotwise.co.uk and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Focus Study's content is suitable for all ages (rated PEGI 3). To create an account you need to be 13 or over. Focus Study isn't designed for children under 13 and we don't knowingly keep their data. If you think a child under 13 has made an account, email info@jotwise.co.uk and we'll delete it.
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes we'll also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
